About ISA – Steel Conclave 2019

The Indian Steel Association is pleased to introduce the Second Edition of its Flagship Event – “ISA – Steel Conclave”. The Conclave would be held on November 21 – 22, 2019 at Hotel The LaLiT, New Delhi, India.


Moving forward with the success of its Inaugural Edition in 2018, The ISA – Steel Conclave 2019 would once again cover pertinent issues and deliberations on Indian and Global Perspectives of the Steel Industry.


The Conclave would feature discussions between the Senior Industry Leaders, Government and Consultants on the Innovations and Technology, Role of Steel in Construction & Design, Steel Exports, Capital Goods, Environmental Management and other Cutting-edge Issues.


The ISA – Steel Conclave 2019 looks forward to creating the premier platform for the entire Steel Ecosystem and the related sectors to gain valuable insights over the course of two day programme.

Industry Overview:

  • World's 2nd largest producer of crude steel (106 MT) in calendar year 2018.

  • Largest producer of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) or Sponge Iron(30.36MT) in the world.

  • 3rd largest consumer of finished steel in 2018 [96MT] in the world preceded by China (835MT) and USA (100MT).

  • The steel sector contributes around 2% of the country's GDP and employs around 25 lakhs persons in steel/allied sectors.

  • 4th largest Iron ore producer in the world.

  • India is the second largest coal producer and importer, after China.

  • The National Steel Policy - 2017 envisages creation of 300 MT of steel capacity in the country by 2030-31 as against existing capacity of 138 MT.

  • The estimated import of plant and equipment, for reaching 300 MT capacity, will be around Rs. 1,72,550 crores.

  • Further, it is estimated that at 300 MT capacity level, India will have to spend about Rs. 3,450 crores annually for import of proprietary and other spares.

  • According to the data released by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Indian metallurgical industries attracted Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) to the tune of US$ 11.30 billion in the period April 2000–March 2019.

  • 100 per cent FDI through the automatic route is allowed in steel sector.

  • Strong manufacturing capabilities, including future steels
